Liposuction

It´s a surgical procedure done in a appropriately equipped surgical center.
Liposuction is the removal of fat from the body using suction to sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas. Small, thin blunt-tipped tubes (cannulas) are inserted through tiny incisions in the skin. Fat is suctioned out through the cannulas as the doctor moves the cannula around under the skin to target specific fat deposits.
Liposuction can be done in the following ways:
  • with syringes.
  • with equipments (that produce vacuum).
  • with ultrasonic equipments (when they vibes they break up the fat cells).
  • with equipments that besides produce vacuum, they also produce na alternative rotating movement (come and go), that facilitate the fat removal and reduce the effort.
It is used several sizes of cannula, as thickness as length. It depends on the case.

  • Question and Answers

  • Is Liposuction for you?
Liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat, unless the patient doesn´t have a convenient skin elasticity to take the content and continent. Ex: Patient who has skin with good elasticity.
Liposuction is not indicated as a substitute for dieting and exercise and when the patient skin is inelastic.
    Does Liposuction leave scars?
The surgical incisions normally measures 0,5 cm and they´re strategically placed to be hidden from view (ridges, hairy places, etc.), but they do leave small scars.
    Does Liposuction leave hematomas?
Yes! Fair skinned patients suffer more in these cases. On the other hand, these hematomas disappear with time. The patient must avoid solar exposion to eliminate the risk of definitive pigmentation.
After the Liposuction, will it be necessary to complement the surgery? What are the risks to this procedure?
Eventually it is necessary to complement the surgery. Frequently it´s a simple procedure to correct small asymmetries. Syringe and local anesthesia are used in this procedure.
Is there life risk for the patient?
Generally we divide a surgical procedure risk in: expected and unexpected risk. The expected risk must not exist because before the surgery patients are carefully evaluated to identify the ones who can or can´t be submitted to this surgery. The unexpected risk does not depend on the surgeon, therefore, when liposuction is done in a well-equipped surgical center these unexpected risks can be solved.
Let´s say that the unexpected risk is smaller than the daily risk inside our cars.
When is it possible to evaluate the final result? When can I do repairs?
The result can be evaluated six months after the surgery. However, after three months patients will notice 70% of the result. After 30 days, the patient can be submitted to a manual or mechanical lymphatic draining (Endermology) and reduce the final result time of his liposuction.

Every repair can be done only after six months.
Why some Liposuction leave a irregular aspect (cellulite)?
Obviously Liposuction is not a method where the surgeon can measure exactly the fat removal, however, the surgeon must avoid superficial fat removal because there are several lymphatic vases responsible for the draining of this local and it can result in alterations as “orange rind”. The superficial fat must be treated through non-invasive methods (ultrasound and vaccumtherapy).
What kind of anesthesia is used in Liposuction?
If it´s a small area and can accommodate the allowed anesthetic quantity, it can be local through obstruction or general anesthesia. They will be conducted by the Anesthesiologist.
Is it necessary to stay overnight in the hospital?
It will depend on the sort of Liposuction patient was submitted to. It can take 1 or 2 hours until 12 hours (time to eliminate anaesthetics completely and necessary hydro-electrolytic replacement in each case).
    Liposculpture Protocol. What is Liposculpture?
Liposculpture is a surgical procedure where the removed fat is used to correct small face corporeal alterations of the same patient.
    Is Liposculpture for you?
Liposculpture is indicated to correct small cutaneous alterations:
    • Face ridges (nose-lip ridges, etc);
    • Depressive scars
    • Buttock ridges
What kind of anesthesia is used in Liposculpture?
    Normally local anesthesia is used.
Is there absorption of the injected fat?
Yes. An injected fat percentage is absorbed until the sixth month, the other part is integrated to the local tissue. Patient is always guided that the best result is achieved when the process is repeated. It works like temporary fulfilling technique.
Can the patient suffer from rejection or infection?
Not normally, because all the preventive measures related to infection and the material belongs to the organism.
What are the Liposculpture postoperative precautions?
The patient must avoid solar exposion, heat, excessive physical effort during a week.
